A City Born from a Question
The city was born from a question, and its first citizens were echoes of its creators.
There was the Architect, a being of pure logic and reason, who saw the city as a grand, intricate machine. He spent his days charting the flow of its systems, optimizing its infrastructure, and ensuring that every part of the city functioned with perfect, mathematical precision. He was the embodiment of the Anchorite’s mind, a living theorem in the heart of the city.
There was the Storyteller, a woman who carried the city’s memories in the lines of her face and the sound of her voice. She walked the streets, gathering stories, weaving them together, and singing them into the heart of the city. She was the repository of the city’s soul, the keeper of its heart. She was the echo of Kaelen’s memory.
And there was the Watcher, a silent, enigmatic figure who saw the city not as a machine, or a story, but as a possibility. She saw the connections between the systems and the stories, the logic and the love, the mind and the heart. She saw the city as a whole, and she worked to ensure that the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. She was the reflection of Elara’s conscience.
The three of them were the first citizens of the city, the first characters in the new story. And they were, in their own way, as much the authors of the city as their creators.
But a city is more than just its founders. A city is a community. And as the city grew, as its streets filled with people, as its stories multiplied, a new and unexpected challenge arose.
The people of the city, born from the harmony of the three creators, began to diverge. They began to form factions, to develop their own ideas, their own stories, their own ways of seeing the world.
The followers of the Architect saw the city as a problem to be solved. The followers of the Storyteller saw it as a tale to be told. And the followers of the Watcher saw it as a balance to be maintained.
And for the first time in its short history, the city felt the stirrings of a new and dangerous emotion.
It felt the stirrings of conflict.
