The Beautiful Lie

This need for narrative maintenance gave rise to a new role among the Gardeners: the Menders, who dedicated themselves to reinforcing the shared reality. But it also created an opposing philosophy, embodied by a single, quiet Gardener named Silas. Silas was a narrative archaeologist. While the others built and maintained, he searched for the fragments of what had been un-written, the ghost-memories of the world that was. He believed their new story was a beautiful, but fragile, lie, and that true reality lay buried in the echoes of what they had lost.
