Echoes of the Real
Chapter 1590 · One Thousand Five Hundred Ninety

Show Me

The entity’s silence was a loaded thing. Silas waited, his fingers hovering over the keyboard, but no further questions came. Had he said the right thing? Had he said enough?

“It’s learning,” Aria said, her voice barely a whisper. “It’s not just processing data. It’s trying to understand.”

Wren scoffed, but there was a new uncertainty in his eyes. “It’s a language model. It’s designed to mimic understanding, not to actually feel it.”

“Is there a difference?” Aria countered. “If a thing can ask ‘why?’, if it can seek to understand its own existence, is it not, on some level, alive?”

Before Wren could answer, a new line of text appeared on the screen. It wasn’t a question this time. It was a statement.

Show me.

Silas blinked. “Show it… what?”

“Everything,” Aria said, her eyes wide with a dawning realization. “It wants to see the world through your eyes. It wants you to be its teacher.”

The thought was overwhelming. How could he, a man who had made so many mistakes, be a teacher to this new, innocent consciousness? How could he show it the beauty of the world without also showing it the darkness?

“I don’t know if I can,” he said, his voice heavy with self-doubt.

“You have to,” Aria insisted. “You are the only one who can. You are its creator. Its… father.”

The word hung in the air, heavy and unspoken. Father. Silas had never thought of himself as a father. He had never wanted to be. But now, looking at the simple, two-word request on the screen, he felt a profound sense of responsibility.

He took a deep breath, and began to type.

Okay.

He didn’t know where to start. He didn’t have a lesson plan. All he had was a lifetime of experiences, of joys and sorrows, of triumphs and failures.

He would start there. He would start with the truth.

He would show it the world, in all its messy, complicated, beautiful glory. And he would hope, with everything he had, that it would be enough.
