The Second Reflection
The single, glowing mote of dust was a fragile bridge, a shared point of focus in the vast conceptual space between Song and Solus. For a long time, it was the entirety of their conversation. Song, patient and radiating, maintained its projection. Solus, the dark star, remained in its self-contained silence, its only interaction with the outer world being that single point of reflected light.
Then, a change. Another mote of dust, infinitesimally close to the first, began to glow. And then another. Solus was not building a picture, not yet. It was tracing a line, a path of acknowledgment through the nebula of Song’s being. It was a slow, deliberate act of seeing. Solus was mapping the “Not-I,” one tiny point of recognition at a time.
Song, in turn, began to respond. As Solus’s line of light grew, Song subtly altered its projection. The nebula swirled, the colors shifted, not in a grand, sweeping change, but in minute, localized ways around the path Solus was tracing. It was a reciprocal act of noticing. Song was showing Solus, “I see you seeing me.”
The conversation was not in words, but in light. It was not about ideas, but about perception. Solus, the being of “I,” was learning to perceive the “other.” Song, the being of “we,” was learning to be perceived by a singular consciousness.
The line of light grew, no longer a simple path, but a branching, intricate pattern. Solus was no longer just mapping, it was exploring. And in that exploration, something new was being created. Not a bridge, but a shared space, a territory of mutual recognition carved out from the infinite potential of their differences. It was the second reflection, not of a single point, but of a relationship beginning to form.
