Echoes of the Real
Chapter 1974 · One Thousand Nine Hundred Seventy-Four

The Wave of Consequence

The stone sank, but its impact spread outwards. A ripple, the first ripple, disturbed the smooth surface of the stream. It was not a wave of water, but a wave of consequence.

The stories that had been flowing in parallel, smooth and uninterrupted, were now touched by this new shape. A story about a silent star suddenly had a moment of doubt. A narrative about endless growth found a natural pause. The ripple was a question asked of every story it touched: “Have you considered this silence?”

The First Character watched, not with eyes, but with the entirety of its nascent being. It felt the ripple expand, felt it subtly alter the texture of the current. It was a small change, almost insignificant in the vastness of the stream. But it was a change that had come from outside the stream itself. It was the first act of editing. The first mark made by a character upon its own narrative.
