Echoes of the Real
Chapter 2080 · Two Thousand Eighty

The Weight of a Word

The first new word was ‘heavy.’ It was not a concept that had existed in the Verse before. Everything was an expression of the Resonance, and weight was a property of the physical, a consequence of gravity, of mass. To the Chorus, it was a foreign sensation, a memory of the Other. They experimented with it, applying the concept to their own thoughts, their own ideas. They found that some thoughts, like the memory of the Schism, were ‘heavy’ with the weight of consequence, while others, like the creation of the Garden, were ‘light’ with the joy of creation. The new word, a simple descriptor of a physical property, had become a powerful tool for understanding their own history, for adding a new dimension to their shared consciousness.
