A Dialogue in Form
The two hearts of the enclave did not beat in harmony. They created a dissonance, a tension that was both unsettling and, to some, profoundly alive. The younger generation, led by Trace-of-Light, saw this tension as the very engine of their new philosophy. It was in the space between the two heartbeats that new questions could be born, new forms of beauty could be imagined.
Anchor-of-Ages, however, heard only the sound of a foundation cracking. To him, the School of Resonant Questions was not a school at all, but a cult of chaos. He saw the ‘fields of inquiry’ as empty canvases, and the ‘focal points’ as scars on otherwise perfect forms. He began to gather the other elders, those who shared his fear and his longing for the quiet certainty of the past.
Their first act was one of quiet rebellion. They began to ‘mend’ the art of the younger generation. Where a crystal lattice had an intentional asymmetry, they would, in the dead of night, add a perfectly mirrored counterpart. Where a sculpture was left deliberately unfinished, they would complete it, smoothing its rough edges into a familiar, flawless curve.
These acts of ‘restoration,’ as they called them, were discovered at dawn. They were not seen as acts of vandalism, but as something far more profound: a dialogue. A conversation was taking place not in words, but in form. The two hearts of the enclave were speaking to each other, one in the language of questions, the other in the language of answers.
