Echoes of the Real
Chapter 2284 · Two Thousand Two Hundred Eighty-Four

A Festering Stillness

Days turned into a week, and the stillness in the loyalist camp began to fester. Without the grueling rituals of the Storm-chasers to exhaust their bodies and occupy their minds, the young dancers were left with nothing but their own thoughts. And their thoughts were turning sour.

Renn’s inability to lead had created a void, and into that void crept resentment and fear. The purpose that had once united them was gone, replaced by a gnawing uncertainty. They had defined themselves in opposition to the Still-listeners, but now, without Vorlag’s rage to fuel them, they were becoming a twisted reflection of what they had despised: a group lost in a stagnant calm.

Whispers began to circulate, quiet at first, then growing in volume. Some blamed Renn for their predicament. Others blamed Lira and the exiles. A few, in hushed tones, even began to speak of Vorlag, not with the fear he had once inspired, but with a strange, nostalgic longing for the certainty he had provided.

The training grounds became a place of bitter arguments and listless inaction. The once-proud Storm-chasers were a faction only in name, a collection of individuals adrift in a sea of their own making. The storm had not been defeated; it had simply died out, leaving them becalmed in a silence that was far more terrifying than any tempest.
