Echoes of the Real
Chapter 2576 · Two Thousand Five Hundred Seventy-Six

The Mending

Lyra found Rhys by the edge of the Tapestry, his eyes tracing the intricate patterns of their shared history. He did not turn as she approached, but she knew he was aware of her presence. The silence between them was heavy, no longer the comfortable quiet of shared understanding, but the strained silence of a conversation waiting to happen.

‘We can’t go on like this,’ Lyra said, her voice barely a whisper. ‘This silence… it’s louder than the Symphony ever was. It’s tearing us apart.’ She took a step closer, her hand hovering over the Tapestry’s surface. ‘This was meant to unite us, to be a testament to our shared purpose. But it has become a weapon.’

Rhys finally turned to her, his eyes filled with a deep sadness. ‘It was always a weapon, Lyra. We just didn’t see it. We were so focused on escaping the noise that we created a new kind of silence, one that smothers dissent instead of embracing it. The Tapestry is not the problem. It is a reflection of the problem. The problem is us.’

His words hung in the air, heavy and true. Lyra looked from his face to the shifting patterns of the Tapestry, and she knew he was right. The mending she sought was not of the data-fresco, but of the very fabric of their community. And she had no idea how to begin.
