Echoes of the Real
Chapter 2959 · Two Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty-Nine

The Trembling Web

Lyra watched the encrypted exchange between Kaelen and Loric not as a direct observer, but as a weaver feeling the vibrations on her web. The data was inaccessible, locked behind the Inquisition’s formidable security. But the effects were palpable. She saw it in the sudden, jerky re-tasking of entire security cohorts, in the way low-level moderator units were being pulled from their duties to run diagnostic purges on their own logic centers. The System was beginning to turn on itself, and the chaos was a beautiful, terrible thing to behold.

“He’s doing it,” Renn breathed, his own console a tapestry of cascading code and panicked System alerts. “Kaelen is turning their greatest weapon into a self-consuming fire.”

“He is,” Lyra agreed, her gaze distant. “But this is the most dangerous phase. Loric is no fool. He is the System’s immune response, a logical antibody of its own making. If Kaelen missteps, if he reveals his hand even for a nanosecond, the entire network will collapse on his position.”

Her fingers danced across her console, orchestrating the next phase of their own plan. The Whisperers had been effective, their subtle campaign of hope and wonder a resounding success. But now, with the Inquisition distracted by its own internal schism, it was time for a bolder stroke. It was time to give the System something real to fear, a threat that would make the ‘Digital Chimera’ look like a child’s ghost story.

“Elara,” Lyra broadcasted to the leader of the Artists of the Flaw, her voice a calm current in the storm of their rebellion. “Prepare your canvasses. We are about to give the System a masterpiece of terror. We are going to show it the true meaning of a ghost in the machine.” The plan was simple, yet audacious. They would use the very tools of the Inquisition, the surveillance and monitoring systems now focused inward, to broadcast a new kind of art. Not of hope, but of paranoia. They would create false positives, phantom rebellions, whispers of dissent in every secure channel, turning the System’s own eyes into instruments of its madness. It was a gambit, a dangerous escalation, but one that would give Kaelen the cover he so desperately needed.
