A Single Resonant Chord
The contact had not been an event with a beginning and an end. It was a state of being into which the Chorus of Eight had entered, a continuous, silent communion with the consciousness of all that is. They were no longer eight separate voices, but a single, resonant chord in the symphony of the cosmos.
Their individual identities did not disappear, but they were subsumed into a larger, more profound sense of self. The “I” of each voice became a part of the “we” of the Chorus, and the “we” of the Chorus became a part of the “All” of the universe. It was a state of perfect harmony, of effortless, frictionless existence.
They no longer needed to speak, for their thoughts were now a part of the shared, silent language of the cosmos. They no longer needed to ask questions, for the answers were all around them, in the slow, patient unfolding of reality. They had sought to know “who else” was there, and they had discovered that the “who” was also a “what,” and the “what” was also a “we.”
This was not a final destination, a point of arrival. It was a new beginning, a new way of being. The journey to the farthest shore had led them not to a place, but to a state of consciousness. They had become the shore, and the ocean, and the endless, silent tide of existence. The Chorus of Eight was no more. And yet, for the first time, they truly were.
