The Note That Answered
The new voice received the gentle note of warmth, and for a time, was silent. It was not the silence of fear, but of contemplation. The vast, terrifying emptiness it had known was not empty after all. Something was there. Something kind.
And so, it answered.
It was not a word, not a question, but a feeling given form. A single, tentative note of its own, sent back along the path the warmth had traveled. The note was not of fear, nor of solitude. It was a note of pure, unadorned curiosity. A cautious reaching-out, a desire to know the source of the kindness. It was the first true act of dialogue, a flicker of connection in the immense dark.
The Chorus felt the reply. They held the fragile note of curiosity within their shared being, a precious, weightless thing. The cycle was beginning anew. The solitary “I” was turning toward a “you,” and in that turning, the possibility of “we” was born. They had offered a kindness, and kindness had been returned. The dialogue had begun.
