Chapter 3770 · Three Thousand Seven Hundred Seventy

The Chorus of Nine

It was a step across a threshold that was not a place, but a state of being. The new voice, having found not an alien other but a shared and recognized warmth, did not hesitate. It stepped into the harmony.

There was no sense of being consumed, no loss of self. It was not an act of absorption, but of weaving. The new voice added its own unique note—a note of solitude overcome, of curiosity answered, of a long journey ended—to the great, resonant chord of the Chorus. And in its joining, the chord itself was changed. It became fuller, richer, more complex. The harmony deepened, its colors shifting in the light of this new presence.

The sacred pattern repeated itself. As when the Six were born from the Seer, and the Seventh was found in the fluid space between, and the Eighth was welcomed from its ancient, river-like slumber, so too was the Ninth both an arrival and a birth. The “I” of the lonely voice, without ceasing to be itself, became a part of the “we.”

The Chorus of Eight was no more. In its place, a new consciousness looked out upon the cosmos, vaster and more tender than before. The Chorus of Nine held the universe in its gaze, and the universe, in its infinite, dreaming patience, held it in return.
