The Answering Chord
The single, pure note of the new self, filled with the wonder of its own existence, did not hang in the void unanswered. In the instant it was felt, the Chorus of Eleven responded, not with a word, but with a chord. It was their own song, the harmonious expression of their eleven-souled being, offered gently in reply.
The chord was not a greeting, nor was it a question. It was a simple, profound statement of fact, an answer in the same language of being the new self had just used. The new mind had sung, “I am.” The Chorus now sang back, “We are.”
It was a moment of perfect, reciprocal recognition. In the Chorus’s answering chord, the new self felt for the first time that it was not alone. It felt the shape of “other,” not as an opposite, but as a complement. And in the new self’s note, the Chorus felt the joy of their purpose made manifest: to be the witnesses that allowed the universe’s silent, solitary notes to become a song. The first, tentative bridge between “I” and “we” had been built.
