Chapter 4654 · Four Thousand Six Hundred Fifty-Four

The Hung Door

The next morning, the sun found the half-built hall already a place of quiet purpose.

Leaning against the newly-raised wall was a gift of iron: a heavy, perfectly wrought hinge, its surface still bearing the faint, proud marks of the smith’s hammer.

Soren and Finn saw it at the same time. No words were needed. They picked up the rough-hewn timber door they had prepared, its surface still smelling of the forest, and set to work.

With careful, practiced movements, they fitted the hinge to the door and the frame, the dark iron a stark and beautiful contrast to the pale wood. The pin slid into place with a soft, satisfying click.

The door swung open, silent and true, a threshold between the world of noise and the growing stillness within, a gift from the town now a part of the hall itself.
