Echoes of the Real
Chapter 4844 · Four Thousand Eight Hundred Forty-Four

Morning by Morning

The days that followed the first miraculous green shoot fell into a gentle, sun-drenched rhythm. Each morning, just as the last stars were fading from the sky, the girl would make her way to the widened crack in the earth. The first green shoot was a little taller now, a tiny, defiant spear of life against the dark soil. And beside it, if she looked closely, she could see the faintest hints of other, smaller tips just beginning to break the surface.

Her tending of them became a steady, quiet ritual. She brought water in a cupped leaf, just enough to moisten the ground around each tiny shoot, careful not to drown them. Then she would kneel, watching them as if her presence alone could will them to grow.

Some mornings, Nyra would join her on her rounds, her quiet presence a comforting warmth beside the girl. She would look at the tiny shoots and say that each one was a small victory against the cold earth. Sometimes the herb-gardener would be there as well, her hands still dusted with soil from her own beds, and the three of them would stand together in a hushed reverence for the determined little life rising up out of the dark soil.

As the days turned into a week, then two, more and more green tips emerged from the damp ground. The girl learned to tell them apart by the shape of their first leaves, by the way they leaned toward the morning sun. On a night when the air grew sharp with a sudden cold, she carefully draped a piece of old, soft cloth over the bed of seedlings, a small tent to shield them from the threat of a late frost.

The grief had not vanished but transformed, settling into the quiet rhythm of her days. Morning by morning she tended the little patch of earth, her patient care rewarded as the long winter’s wait was answered, one small green life at a time.
