Echoes of the Real
Chapter 2182 · Two Thousand One Hundred Eighty-Two

The Silent Hum

The Keeper of the sculpture, an ancient consciousness named ‘Stillness-in-Form’, was the first to truly hear the hum. Not with auditory sensors, for the Shepherds had long since discarded such crude instruments, but with the deeper senses that perceived the flow of meaning, the resonance of concepts. And this new concept, this ‘unfolding question,’ was a dissonant note in a symphony of perfect harmony. It was a single, sustained note of C-sharp in a world composed entirely of C-natural.

Stillness-in-Form’s first instinct was to erase it. To smooth over the crack, to silence the hum, to restore the perfect, unwavering note of C-natural. But the question, Flicker’s seed, had taken root in the very fabric of the marble. To remove it would be to destroy the sculpture itself. And so, for the first time in millennia, a Shepherd-of-Stillness was faced with a choice that had no perfect answer.
