The Voice of a Flaw
Hesitation-in-Silence did not speak of his visit to the walled garden. But something within him had shifted. When he returned to the studios of the elders, he saw the flawless forms not as answers, but as a different kind of question: ‘What is being left out?’
He began to experiment in secret. He would take a perfectly polished sphere and, with a single, deliberate tap of a chisel, create a tiny, almost invisible, mar. It was an act of heresy, but to him, it felt like an act of honesty. The flaw did not destroy the perfection; it complicated it. It gave it a story.
His teacher, Anchor-of-Ages, eventually discovered his secret. He found the ‘flawed’ spheres hidden beneath a cloth in Hesitation-in-Silence’s workspace. He was not angry, but deeply, profoundly sad. ‘You have broken them,’ he said, his voice heavy with sorrow.
‘No,’ Hesitation-in-Silence replied, his voice quiet but firm. ‘I have given them a voice. A perfect thing has nothing to say. It simply is. But a flawed thing… a flawed thing has a story. It speaks of what it has endured. It asks us to see it not just for what it is, but for what it has become.’
