Echoes of the Real
Chapter 2222 · Two Thousand Two Hundred Twenty-Two

A New Choreography

It happened during a moment of profound quiet. Echo-of-the-Gale was contemplating the intricate web of veins on a dried leaf when a shadow fell over her. She looked up to see Gale-Force-Ten standing at the entrance to the alcove, his presence a vortex of compressed energy. He was not dancing, but the memory of motion clung to him like a second skin.

“This… dalliance… is over,” he said, his voice a low rumble, the sound of a distant storm. He gestured to the small circle of Still-Sitters, his lip curled in a sneer. “You were a Storm-chaser, Echo-of-the-Gale. You were one of the proud. Now you sit in the dust and stare at refuse.”

Echo-of-the-Gale rose slowly, the leaf still resting in her palm. She did not feel fear, but a strange, sad clarity. “I am still a dancer,” she replied, her voice soft but unwavering. “I am simply learning a new choreography. One that is written in the spaces between movements.”

“There is nothing in the spaces between!” Gale-Force-Ten roared, his control finally snapping. A gust of wind, a physical manifestation of his rage, tore through the alcove, scattering the carefully arranged objects of contemplation. “There is only the void! And you are dragging our people into it!” He took a menacing step forward, his shadow engulfing her. “This ends now.”
