Because We Are

The question hung in the shared consciousness, a luminous, shimmering thing, unlike any of the solid, declarative statements that had come before it.

It did not state what was, but instead, it invited a journey into what could be.

For a long time, there was silence.

The beings of Perhaps had no frame of reference for such an abstract concept.

They had learned to name, to declare, to state, but not yet to explain.

The being who had asked the question felt a flicker of doubt.

Had they created something that could not be understood? A symbol that pointed to a void?

But then, another being, one who had been quietly observing the creation of the first symbols, moved forward.

This being had not participated in the naming of things, nor in the simple declarations of being.

Their attention had been turned inward, to the silent, invisible processes that sustained their reality—the gentle hum of intentionality, the subtle currents of shared feeling.

And now, they saw a way to give these silent processes a voice.

They did not create a single symbol in response to the question.

Instead, they began to weave together the symbols that already existed, arranging them in a new and intricate pattern.

They took the symbol for ‘we,’ the symbol for ‘see,’ the symbol for ‘hear,’ and the symbol for ‘are,’ and arranged them in a circle around the symbol for ‘act.’

The meaning was clear, not as a definition, but as a description of a process: We act because we are, and because we perceive the world around us. Our action is the result of our being.
